      September 19 was an ordinary day.

　　On this day, the leadership of China Everbright Bank received an unordinary letter. The letter was so sincere and touching that it has triggered strong reaction from the bank’s staff.

　　Dear Chairman Tang, President Guo, Leaders of Everbright Group and Everbright Bank and Comrades:

　　Hello, everybody. On this hot summer day, Li Yan, our daughter and your colleague, sank into a freezing abyss. She was diagnosed to be suffering advanced gastric cancer, a result that was most unacceptable and unbelievable to us. Nobody liked to see a girl at the age of 24 to become so frail and withered all of a sudden. Of all the saddened hearts, we as her parents were suffering most. We were not an affluent family, and the diagnosis was tantamount to rubbing salt in our wounds. At a time when we felt most helpless, the love you showed was like a sunshine beaming into our heart. The Board Chairman personally visited us, President Liu and other leaders of the branch paid high attention to the issue, a 50,000-yuan special fund representing the deep care of Chairman Tang and President Guo was sent to us, and the staff of Everbright Qingdao Branch spontaneously gave their donations. All this made us feel proud to be a member of the Everbright family. What was most precious was the love shown by the Everbright family. It boosted the courage of our daughter to fight against the cancer, toughened her determination to overcome all difficulties, and became a powerful force to push us and Li Yan forward. Naturally, the visit of the demon of disease was something unfortunate to us. But being a member of the Everbright family was something so lucky. Only a member of this loving family can refuse to fall at the most difficult moment.

　　Our daughter refused to give in at the most difficult moment and faced the demon of disease with smiles. We the parents want to take this opportunity to say “sincere thanks” to all the leaders and staff of Everbright Bank. We are grateful that you have shored up the heaven for us with love and you proved with your deeds that no difficulty in the world is insurmountable. 　　 A few days ago, this reporter went to Everbright Bank, trying to know a painful and yet touching story.

　　On a hot summer day in August, Li Yan, an ordinary employee of the Shangdong Street Sub-Branch of the Qingdao Branch of Everbright Bank, was diagnosed to be suffering advanced gastric cancer. At the age of 24, this young life was in imminent peril. All the leaders and employees of the branch felt sorry for her and were concerned about her rescue. At the end of August, the leaders took the initiative to donate, followed by all the employees. Within two days, over 370 employees of the branch donated a total of RMB 126,420, which effectively covered her basic medical expenses.

　　Just when all the good people came to Li Yan’s help in various ways and through various channels, Comrade Tang Shuangning, board chairman and party secretary of Everbright Group who was on an inspection of Qingdao Branch, came to the hospital that very night to visit her and donated RMB 2,000. He hoped Li Yan to pull herself together, cooperate with the doctors and strive for an early recovery. The trade union of the bank’s head office also sent RMB 50,000 of relief fund. He Jianfeng, deputy head of the general office of the bank’s head office, donated RMB 2,000. Yang Xiaobing, deputy general manager of the personnel department of Everbright Group, Guo Yanling, deputy general manager of the strategic management department of the bank’s head office, and Mei Leijun, director of Everbright Pramerica Fund Management Co., Ltd., who were on a research assignment at Qingdao Branch, all gave their helping hands. 　　Li Yan was unfortunate; she had to face the demon of cancer in the prime of her life. She was lucky; she was deeply loved by all the members of the Everbright family. Currently, Li Yan is receiving treatment in both Chinese traditional medicine and in radiation therapy. I am confident that she will work wonders and stand up again, for there are so many people around her.

　　“Love is something most touching.” To a sick ordinary employee, the generous donations from the Everbright family are not mere economic help; they are spiritual support and encouragement.
